Great post, Matthew. Wouldn't it be good if Bernard Lonergan's epistemology were a core requirement in every seminary? The person's intellect has to grasp the internal relations of the parts of things--a matter of experiencing understanding, "self-appropriation". In other words, systems thinking. I'm just now experiencing what a huge difference a christology can make in the practice of religion. I'm glad you pointed up Pope Francis's observation about the time it takes in a person's life to come to some understanding--middle age unto old age.
