I’m very grateful to come across this interview. I discovered Dr. Guth’s work a few months ago and have only just begun reading some of her articles (saving up for the book; darn those university press prices!). Are you aware of any other scholars who have done similar work? I’ve found some one-off articles on various theologians (Yoder, Barth, Tillich, etc.), but none who have studied and articulated the issues as extensively as Guth.

I think Karen's work is pretty unique in that it is focusing on "legacies" in particular. The closest thing I can think of is the much broader discussion of social sin. One book from a Protestant perspective on social sin is Derek Nelson's What's Wrong with Sin: Sin in Individual and Social Perspective from Schleiermacher to Theologies of Liberation.

But it sounds like you're more interested in other work on the tainted legacies of theologians, and I think you're right that most of what's been written would just be about an individual theologian rather than looking at the issue more broadly. Sorry to not be more help!

Thanks Matthew! Even if it’s only semi-related, Nelson’s book sounds interesting. And it’s honestly helpful to confirm the uniqueness of Guth’s work; sometimes I think I’ve found the major sources for a research question only to discover way down the road that I missed important and relevant works.
